Objectives
This Core Facility is based on the existence of two overlapping services coordinated by the same group.
1. Microarray Core Facility
The immediate goal is to establish the technology of microarraying and profiling at UVS. This will be done in partnership with IFOM (Milano) and the biotech company Medway (Lugano, Switzerland). We plan to spot the existing 25 000 Unigene targets on supports, after grouping them in functional sets (based on the currently available information). These sets will be redrawn as informations grows. All investigators detailed in the Reserch Lines section will use this platform, and over time the availability of the core facility will be extended to outside users. This platform is currently served by 2 people and will be expanded to 4-5 people.
2. Bioinformatics service
The mission of this platform is the provision of up-to-date expertise in the use of public databases and bioinformatics software. Three people are available at present, that will be expanded to 6-7. All research lines in UVS are using or will use in due time this platform, and to some extent this activity will be accessible from the outside. Currently, the web page for outside users (http://www.tigem.it) is managed by TIGEM, that will move it to Naples with the lab. An alternative web site will be developed and maintained.
