Alberto Davalli has been working in the field of islet transplantation since 1989 when, under the guidance of Dr. Camillo Ricordi, participated to the set up of the facility devoted to the isolation of human pancreatic islets at the San Raffaele Institute.. From 1992 to 1995 Dr. Davalli has been appointed as Research fellow at the Harvard University. During this period, spent at the Joslin Diabetes Center of Boston, Dr. Davalli continued his work on islet transplantation in the laboratory headed by Dr. Gordon C. Weir and Dr. Susan Bonner-Weir. In this setting, Dr. Davalli learned several techniques and increased his sophistication about how to address scientific problem related to the fate of islet grafts performed in animal models of diabetes mellitus. In 1995 Dr. Davalli came back to Milan where he is presently heading a Research Unit and, as clinical diabetologist, he is taking care of diabetic patients.
