The San Raffaele Foundation operates internationally with AISPO (Italian Association for People’s Solidarity) and owns a clinical establishment in San Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. AISPO is a non-profit organisation created in 1984 by the San Raffaele Hospital. AISPO's mandate is to carry out health-related initiatives in developing countries, according to the Gospel proposition: "Go, teach, heal". Since 1985 AISPO has been recognised by the Italian Foreign Office as a non government organization (ONG) suited for the implementation of international health and educational cooperation programs. Since 1997 AISPO has become an ONLUS (Non profit Organization of Social Usefulness). AISPO is a recognised partner in a number of specific international initiatives coordinated by the following Organisations: UNICEF, WHO, EU and the Italian Foreign Office.
