Cognitive Neuroscience
One of the main areas of activity of the Unit is the interdisciplinary work (involving neuropsychology, linguistics, cognitive psychology) in the field of language studies. In particular, the Unit is involved, in close cooperation with the Functional Imaging Unit, in a series of research projects aiming to the investigation of the neural correlates of the main levels of linguistic processing (phonology, lexical-semantics, morphosyntax). The main focus of investigation at the moment is the cerebral representation of lexical-semantic knowledge and the neural correlates of morphosyntactic processing. The main tools which are used in this area are functional magnetic resonance, positron emission tomography and the clinical investigation of aphasic patients.
