Jacopo Meldolesi
Cellular and molecular neurobiology
The group works in two directions. The first direction concerns cytoplasmic organelles competent for regulated exocytosis, in particular the enlargeosome which was discovered in the lab. Organelles are investigated from multiple points of view: genetic regulation of their expression; molecular characterization of their structure; detailed analysis of their function. The second direction concerns the mechanisms of neurodegeneration in the course of diseases. Attention is focused on synapses and neurosecretion. In order to carry out these studies the laboratory employes multiple techniques, from gene expression to proteomics, from confocal and electron microscopy to subcellular fractionation and analyses of protein interactions.
